This is the third highest ranking hand in poker, consisting of four cards of the same rank - such as four Jacks. This combination is also sometimes known as “quads”, or “poker." The fifth card can be anything, so between two fours of a kind, the one with the higher set of four cards is the winner - so 5, 5, 5, 5, Ace is beaten by 6, 6, 6, 6, 2. If, when playing a game other than straight poker, you need to compare two fours of a kind where the sets of four cards are of the same rank, then the one with the higher fifth card is better.
