The spectacular venue for the 1936 Olympics set in the heart of the Olympiapark M¸nchen in northern Munich has been renovated at a cost of £165m and will host the World Cup final on 9 July. Designed by the German architect G¸nther Behnisch and the engineer Frei Otto, the Olympiastadion was considered revolutionary, as for the first time in a large scale large sweeping canopies of plexiglass stabilised by steel cables were used.
